Toronto woman told to put her top on

I like the two quotes in the article, very good point.

"Hot pink string bikinis are okay — a plain normal black bra is not okay."

"Martin was told that she would attract unwanted attention from men and her safety was at risk...'Deal with the guys if there is a problem, but don't come over and pre-emptively tell me that I'm going to start a problem.' "

  1. Topless man and woman are both unacceptable in official events unless having explicitly agreed by the organizer. Not a matter of bikinis or bra.

[貴回覆08/14/2011 11:28:49]Well...the word "topless" is referred to "without top-shirt" as in the news context without meaning undressed at top. We follow the usage. I think Martin wouldn't be forbidden wearing a bra or bikinis interpreted as sort of fashion even if it happened in public streets. The issue is the venue changed. Firstly, it’s a beer festival. It’s possible for people drinking high. Secondly, the organizer had the right to require attendees dressed in a proper way. Martin was universalizing the argument “bikinis okay while bra not okay” in all context. And that is misleading. Just like “honesty is virtue” seems universally true but unacceptable in case one was interrogated by enemy at war. Situation always dictates.
